Athlete’s Village FAQThe Gorge Games Athlete’s Village is a temporary community built upon the idea that it will be an interactive village for athletes, their families and friends. Our intention is to create a place that connects individuals in terms of community, civic life and nature. To be part of this community means you accept the concept of being radically self-sufficient; that is, you understand personal responsibility and will reach out to other participants in a communal way to bring about change at the Gorge Games and beyond. By coming together for a short time, sharing our resources, stories and experiences, and then leaving no trace upon our departure, we hope to foster a new kind of community that can play hard, enjoy time off between events and leave no trace that we were ever here. Come play with us. |

Athlete's Village FAQ
WHY SHOULD I STAY AT THE ATHLETE’S VILLAGE AND CAN I BRING MY FAMILY AND FRIENDS?
The best reason for staying at the Athlete’s Village is it will be a unique way to spend your down time between events.
Another great reason to stay is you will be within walking distance to The Event Site (for many wind events) and the
Adventure Village. There will be places for you to relax, places to get some great food, have a beer, educate yourself
and interact with art. Of course, your family and friends may reserve spots as well and Athlete’s Village services are
available to all who stay there during the Gorge Games.
WHAT DO YOU MEAN “RESERVE A SPOT?”
Like a campground or hotel you will reserve your space ahead of time and it will be guaranteed for the amount
of time you reserve. The Athlete’s Village is open Wednesday, July 16, 2008 at noon and closes Monday
July 21, 2008 at noon.
WHAT ARE THE RESERVED SPOTS LIKE?
Everyone who reserves a spot will have either a 25’ X 30’ or 25’ X 40’. All reserved spots will be on a hard
surface or gravel. While this is great for RV’s or people car-camping, you should be aware of this if you are
planning on staying in a tent. The surface may not allow you to put in tent stakes so please keep this in mind
when figuring out your shelter and sleeping requirements. There is a limited amount of the larger spots, please
reserve as early as possible.
OK, I WANT TO RESERVE A SPOT, HOW MUCH WILL IT COST?
- 25’ X 30’ is $50.00 per night
- 25’ X 40’ is $75.00 per night.
Should you prefer a spot only on Friday or Saturday the cost is $90 per night, per space. The reason for this is
the impact on services and to insure that Athletes needing to stay multiple nights have priority. If you arrive
mid-week all spots are $50.00 per night, per space.
WHAT KIND OF SERVICES ARE AVAILABLE FOR RV’S?
There will be no power or water hook-ups available. Consider this
“dry camping”. Each RV must be self-contained
and have a generator if you need a power source. There will be a waste removal company available to clear out the
waste storage tanks and you may pay them a separate fee for waste to be removed from your RV. We can help you
with this process to make sure it is easy and convenient.
WHAT ABOUT MY POOCH? I NEVER GO ANYWHERE WITHOUT HIM.
We believe pets are family members and should be allowed to come and play. We also know that not everyone is as
crazy about our four-legged friends as we are. We believe the only way for everyone to be happy is to provide policies related to pooches. The Pooch Policy is pretty simple and straight forward. All Pooches must me on a leash at all times and never left in a vehicle unattended. (RV’s not included.) All pets must be registered with the Athlete’s Village, wear a ‘Pooch Pass’ and pay a small pet fee to stay in the Village. The fee for the
Pooch Pass is $25.00. This fee is good for as many nights as you stay. The reason for the registration of pets is to limit ‘lost dogs’ and to identify owners of pets if any emergencies arise or owners are violating the rules of the
Pooch Policy. Finally, and most important, all owners must clean up after their pooches. A ‘doggie area’ will be provided as well as receptacles for their waste. If an Owner is found to violate these rules, the Athlete’s Village retains the right to evict the owner and pooch without refund. Non-responsible pet owners impact the experience of their neighbors and jeopardize the rights of responsible owners, so those that do not take care of their Pooches
properly will not be permitted to stay in Athlete’s Village.
WHAT KIND OF SERVICES WILL THE ATHLETE’S VILLAGE PROVIDE?
There will be portable toilets, a small number of private showers, a recycling center to help you deal with your
trash/waste, hot and cold food vendors, a beer garden, interactive art displays, daily activities, doggie area, a
half-pipe for skating, community areas, demonstrations from Corporate Sponsors and other surprises.
SPEAKING OF TRASH, WILL THERE BE TRASH CANS AVAILABLE?
No. This is a “Pack In and Pack Out Event”. We ask all members of the Athlete’s Village to commit to taking care
of their own trash. The reasons for making this event ‘Pack in and Pack out” is not only to lessen the impact on
the community hosting this event, but also to help us all realize the amount of trash we produce and to become
educated on better ways to deal with it. Pack In and Pack Out simply means:
if you bring the waste, you cannot
dispose of it in the Athlete’s Village. It means you are responsible for your carbon footprint and take your
refuse with you – better yet, incorporate some of our suggestions to reduce waste before you even arrive to the
event!
YOU MEAN I HAVE TO PUT ALL MY STINKY GARBAGE IN MY VEHICLE?
Yes and no. We will provide receptacles for recycling, glass, paper, food stuffs, and plastics. If you recycle
all of these things than the amount of trash you actually have to deal with and take home is very small. We will
also provide information about proper dumping areas along all major routes leaving the event.
WHAT ELSE SHOULD I KNOW BEFORE ARRIVING AT THE ATHLETE’S VILLAGE?
When you arrive at the gates of the Athlete’s Village you will be assigned your spot for the duration of your
reservation and you will be expected to follow some general guidelines. We expect you to understand you are a
participant in Athlete’s Village. To fully be a participant, we would like you to think of the Village as your
temporary home. Get to know your neighbors, involve yourself in as many activities as you like, and enjoy your
off time between competitive events. This Village will be as successful as you make it. If you have a dispute
with your neighbor or another member of the Athlete’s Village -- we encourage you to communicate and try to
resolve any issues you have. If resolution doesn’t come then we will be there to assist.
To make a
community – we need everyone to take personal responsibility seriously. This includes: cooperation, maturity
and people behaving reasonably as they interact with others.
WHAT KIND OF GUIDELINES ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?
There will be hard rules, one’s that as a community we can not have you violate. There are also softer rules to
help you navigate what it means to be a member of a community.
HARD RULES? CAN YOU GIVE SOME EXAMPLES?
Sure. Things like no firearms allowed in the Athlete’s Village. No Fireworks. No defacing art or public shelters
or spaces. No loud music after 11pm. No open fires. Pet Policies will be enforced. You must also vacate your
reserved spot at the agreed time -- although you can check with the reservation office if you want to try and stay
longer.
WHAT ABOUT THE SOFT RULES?
The soft rules are more about your personal responsibility to your community. We understand Athlete’s Village will
be an evolving experience throughout the week and as issues and concerns come up we ask you to be patient and under
standing. We also ask for your help in identifying and communicating needs to staff and volunteers. We need your
input to make Athlete’s Village a great experience.
ANYTHING ELSE I NEED TO KNOW BEFORE ARRIVING?
Sure! We will be adding content up to the event time. Please check back frequently for updates or send us an
email
if you have a questions.
Athlete's Village Pet Policy
Welcome to the Athlete’s Village! And Welcome to your Pooch, too! We understand that a lot of people consider their pets’ part of the
family and so do we. However, all family members have to follow rules and guidelines so please read the information below so you and your
Pooch will have a great stay with us.
1. ALL dogs staying in the Athlete’s Village must be registered with the Reservation Office and must wear a “Pooch Pass” at all times. If
for some reason your dog loses his pass please return to the office and we will issue a duplicate. We want to make sure we don’t have
‘lost dogs’ and that we can identify owners in cases of emergency or violations of the Pooch Policy.
2. Aggressive dogs of any breed are not welcome to stay in our Community of the Athlete’s Village. If your dog shows behavior that is
protective and unfriendly to strangers, please leave them home. If you decide to bring your dog and it exhibits this type of behavior we
will have to ask you to please find other accommodations.
3. All dogs are required to be under the control and observation of their owner at all times. A 6’ (six foot) leash rule is in effect
whenever the animal is outside of the owner’s camp trailer, RV, vehicle, tent or other temporary abode. No dog should be left tied up
and unattended. If you are competing requiring you to leave your dog behind, please make sure you have a ‘sitter’ to care for your family
member while you are away.
4. Do not leave your dog unattended in your car. The temperature will be in the high 80’s or hotter outside, creating life threatening temperatures inside of your vehicle. The only exception to this is if you leave your dog in your air conditioned RV or motor home.
5. Allowing your dog to bark uncontrollably day or night will not be permitted and you may be asked to leave if you are not able to control your dog’s barking behavior.
6. YOU MUST clean up after your dog, every time. There will be a designated “Doggie Area” with proper receptacles for waste disposal. We expect you to clean up after your dog there as well. Not everyone is happy with the idea of dogs at events and nothing will get a ban on dogs faster than someone walking in waste or seeing aggressive behavior. Please help show others that dog owners are responsible and that our dogs are important, well-behaved, and appropriately social family members.
7. Service dogs of any breed are welcome at the Athlete’s Village. However, these animals may not exhibit aggressive behavior.
