2008 Gorge Games Urban Adventure Race
The 2008 Gorge Games Urban Adventure Race is not your typical Urban Adventure Race..There are no silly clues, no silly challenges, and you will not
take pictures with your cell phone. So what will you be doing? Your 3 member Adventure Team will Kayak, Run, Bike, Rappel, Climb, and Zipline your
way to the finish line on this urban assault of Hood River. Can you build the winning team at the 2008 Gorge Games Urban Adventure Race? Can your
team endure the entire 3 hours? Sign up, get ready, and find out..
What is the 2008 Gorge Games Urban Adventure Race?
The Gorge Games Urban Adventure Race utilizes the same disciplines as a typical 12 to 24hour eco/adventure race, only in an urban setting and lasting
3 hours. Does this make it any easier than a typical adventure race? Come find out for yourself.. The Rules are simple. Five minutes prior to the
race, your Adventure Team will receive a sealed envelope. Inside your envelope will be the locations of all 6 checkpoints located around Hood River.
Your team will plot its course and navigate via foot power to as many of the checkpoints that you can endure within the 3-hour time limit. Once you
arrive at a checkpoint, you will encounter a discipline that your entire team must complete. How well your team performs at the checkpoint will determine
how many points your team is awarded. The team that completes the course in the fastest time, with the most points, will win the 2008 Gorge Games
Urban Adventure Race.
What type of athlete do I have to be in order to compete in the Urban Adventure Race?
You don’t have to be an Elite Athlete. The team that takes this trophy will be the team that has the proper balance of strength, smarts, and teamwork.
Does it help to be an Athlete? Yes. Do you have to be an Athlete to win? No. Don’t be mislead – This race will challenge every aspect of your mind,
body, and endurance. This course will beat you up, this course will make you tired, but you will finish. And when you do…You can say that you competed
in the 2008 Gorge Games Urban Adventure Race.
What are the disciplines at each checkpoint?
There will be six checkpoints and six disciplines. They are:
• Rappelling
• Kayaking
• Trail Running
• Stair Climbing
• Mountain Biking
• High Angle/Low Angle Ropes Course
What kind of Gear will my team need?
Each Adventure Team will need to supply (3) Helmets, (3) Certified Life Vest (PFd’s), and (1) kayak/canoe for each team. Once you arrive at a checkpoint,
all the necessary gear will be provided for you. More information about equipment rules and regulation are in the Official Race Packet. (Please note:
any float worthy craft without oarlocks are permissible. The Kayak leg will be a one-man relay and your team will only need to provide (1) single
person watercraft for the race)
What else do I need to know?
Nothing…Part of the excitement in Adventure Racing is the unknown. You will be
challenged. You will be tired… You will have fun. For those of you
that require more information, we will be posting the Official Race Packet on the site soon.
